A brother in Christ asked: Why do some Christians suffer in pain and poverty?
Response:
All Christians go through pain in their life regardless of their income. It simply is called life. God never promises that our life will be perfect; He does promise that all things will work for the good of those who love Him (Roman 8:28).
Sometimes Christians were born into poverty. Other times they placed themselves there with bad choices. Other times they chose to be poor to live a simple life. Other times God led them there to help a certain people group. It's important to recognize everyone is different and so I don’t choose to generalize all Christians.
Some of my favorite quotes are:
“Sometimes the devil will let you have whatever you want so you won’t need God.”
C.s Lewis said “God whispers to us in our pleasures but He shouts to us in our pain.” Someone wise once said, “We don’t change when we see the light but when we feel the heat.”
I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born says the Lord (Isaiah 66:9)
God is good in all His ways and He is sovereign. God does not owe us any explanation for the things He has let take place in our lives. There are so many times in scripture where God urges people to trust in Him.
God uses pain to teach us to depend on Him (1 cor. 1:8-10). God also uses pain to get our attention.
The bible depicts the world as fallen. We deserve nothing more then hell, nothing less than absolute separation from God. God in His mercy and grace paved a way for man to be reconciled to God through His son Christ Jesus.
God rules the world and He has a purpose for allowing everything to happen.
In other words, there is inequality in this world because it is a broken world, caused by humanity’s rebellion against God’s rule. Yet God is holding back His judgment of our rebellion, allowing and even using the suffering and inequality of the world, in order to give us a chance to recognize our rebellion and turn back to him. He understands our suffering (after all He suffered on the cross unjustly for our sakes) but also recognizes that the alternative - His judgment and anger - is far worse for us; so He gives us time to turn back. This is why there is inequality and suffering in the world.
